What a SKU does for a small seller
Use a consistent internal code to find, pick, and count products.
A SKU is an internal reference chosen by a business. It can describe a product family, size, color, or storage location when the naming rules stay consistent. Unlike a carrier tracking number or retail GTIN, a SKU is usually meant for your own inventory workflow.
Choose a short pattern that staff can read and enter reliably. Avoid reusing a code for a different product after sales history exists. Put the SKU on a product or warehouse label where it helps picking, but keep customer-facing labels uncluttered.
